The Montreal Canadiens have announced their new assistant captain. Following the trade of Joel Edmundson, a spot became available.
It has been given to none other than Montreal native Mike Matheson.
Here is the official announcement:
Matheson will join Gallagher as an alternate and of course Nick Suzuki will retain his captaincy.
Matheson was acquired for Jeff Petry last year, and has been a key piece of Montreal's defense since, playing over 24 minutes per night.
Congrats Mike!
