It's been almost a month since the position of general manager at the Montreal Canadiens was left vacant by the dismissal of Marc Bergevin. Several names have been put forward by the media since that day, but still no one has been named to the position.
However, among the names that have been put forward, we do not find Florence Schelling. But who is she? Schelling is the first woman to hold the position of general manager in a professional men's hockey team with CP Berne in April 2020.
Before landing there, the goalie went through quite a hockey journey! The Swiss-born woman has been to the Olympics four times, the World Championships 11 times, while playing four years in the NCAA with the Northeastern University Huskies. It was there that she earned her degree in business administration. She also completed a master's degree in strategy and management of international organizations at Linköping University in Sweden.

In an interview with Nicholas Richard of La Presse, she did not hesitate to confirm her desire to obtain a position in the Tricolore organization.
«I tell myself that I have nothing to lose by picking up the phone and talking to the organization. I have nothing to lose, the team has nothing to lose, she admitted. It was always the men who led, and there are complaints that hockey is not progressive enough. So maybe there needs to be a change. You have to do things differently, and in order to do that, you have to ask yourself whether a man with the same background as his counterparts or his predecessors can really make a difference.»
In short, despite the fact that it does not appear in the names currently circulating, it should not be excluded from the race. Florence Schelling has enough experience to get an interview with the Montreal Canadiens. It remains to be seen if Jeff Gorton will give him a small phone call!
