With less than a week to go before the trade deadline, most teams looking to improve will likely be looking to acquire players who are currently in the NHL.
But what about some of the players who are currently out of contract?
As reported by
Zachary Leroux-Levis of Marquer.com, a former Habs player who is out of a contract with an NHL team, there is a lot of interest around the league. He would even be on the verge of an agreement with one of the teams (most likely after the trade deadline).
David Pagnotta of The Fouth Period said that Eric Staal could very well come in and help a team that is looking to make a deep run in the playoffs.
"There's interest from some teams, he's playing for the opportunity to come back to the NHL, depending on the market in the next few days, some teams are going to try to look at him, depending on the deadline." -David Pagnotta
Steal appeared with the Canadiens and got 8 point in 21 games in that playoffs. He an still contribute.
This season, Staal played four games with the Minnesota Wild before representing Canada at the Beijing Olympics.
When you think about it, it wouldn't be crazy for a team to acquire him, given that he might not cost too much and his leadership could be an asset, as it was last year with the Habs.
