We already know that Ben Chiarot will be traded.
Another name that has been circulating heavily in the rumor mill over the past few months is defenseman Jeff Petry. He had a very rough start to the season, then started playing well again following the arrival of Martin St. Louis as head coach, and now it looks like he's headed back in the wrong direction.
Would it be the right time to trade him? Now that he's showing signs of getting back to his bad habits, after a great run... Many experts think so.
Among the teams that have shown interest in acquiring Petry are the Dallas Stars and the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Flyers are in the process of upgrading their defensive line, but they don't necessarily want to get any younger. They just signed Rasmus Ristolainen and now they would be open to trading Travis Sanheim and Ivan Provorov.
Provorov was seen by many as one of the best young backs in the NHL, a future elite defenseman, but much like Jeff Petry, this season has been a disaster for him.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman even reported that if it wasn't for his contract and history with the team, Provorov would be in the stands right now and out of the lineup.
The man who has been the #1 defenseman in Philadelphia for almost five years really seems to be on his way out. Friedman adds this:
So basically, Provorov is sick of the Flyers and Philly is sick of Provorov. Obviously a perfect recipe for a trade.
Knowing that they are interested in Jeff Petry, is a trade possible between the two teams? Many experts seem to think so.
Obviously, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton will have to be added, but it's rare that we have the opportunity to get our hands on a potential #1 defenseman of high caliber, so it's interesting and worth keeping in mind.
