Corey Perry Saga: very disturbing statement by Renaud Lavoie on Perry's future in the NHL
Regarding the story involving former Montreal Canadien forward Corey Perry, journalist Renaud Lavoie also had his say on this story last night on TVA Sports.
Renaud notably made a major statement about Perry's future in the NHL.
"I would be very surprised if that happens! (that Perry signs with another team) I don't need to tell you that the chances of his career being over are very high."
"It makes no sense to end his career like that!" - Renaud Lavoie
During his segment with Jean-Charles Lajoie on Tuesday night, Lavoie indeed had a lot to say.
"You don't want to be associated with someone who has really put an organization in trouble. I think it will go beyond what the Blackhawks did. If Corey Perry wants to come back to the NHL, I feel it will have to go through the commissioner. The chances of his career being over are very high."
It is indeed worrying to hear that.
Renaud adds that what Perry did must be very serious, leading to such an outcome:
"It's hard to see a guy who was going straight to the Hall of Fame get thrown out like that from a team. He was precisely hired to set an example. This is not good news. It's a black eye for him and for the NHL, in a way. To see that the Blackhawks are forced to let him go, after an internal investigation, because his conduct is negative, it's certain that the accusations are serious."
He ends with this:
"It makes no sense to end his career like that. Honestly, where is the judgment? That's what I find regrettable. We've celebrated this player for so many years and he destroys his career like this. It's really a very sad story." - Renaud Lavoie, via TVA Sports website
Full segment:
It will be really interesting to see what happens next, but let's remember that for now, Perry is on waivers and he will know his fate at 2 PM today.
If he is not claimed, his contract will be terminated with the Blackhawks and he will become an unrestricted free agent (UFA).
As Renaud mentions, if he wants to reach an agreement with a new club, he might have to ask permission from Gary Bettman, depending on the severity of the matter, but for a contract to be terminated, it must be serious.
