An intriguing trade proposal has indeed surfaced on social media, involving Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.

At this point, it seems very realistic to think the Habs will try to trade their 16th overall pick in 2025, or their 17th overall pick in 2025, or even both selections.
Most experts suggesting trade offers involving these two picks also include established players coming back the other way.
For example:
Trading the 16th and 17th overall picks for a forward like Bo Horvat.
However, Phylippe Bernard proposed something very different.

Using the Montreal Canadiens' two 2025 first-round picks to try to get their hands on generational talent Gavin McKenna?

That's exactly what he seems to be suggesting.
"Would Montreal consider trading their 16th and 17th overall picks to a team they believe will be among the 5-6 worst in the league next year, in order to have a shot at drafting Gavin McKenna?

They could then make an offer sheet to McTavish or another player to fill gaps in the lineup."

Do you like the idea?
That would look something like this:
To Montreal: Unprotected 2026 1st-round pick
Traded by Montreal: 16th and 17th overall picks in 2025
To pull off such a bold move, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton would need to find a team that believes it will be competitive next season, but actually won't be.
Could the Anaheim Ducks fit that description?
It's definitely an interesting idea.
