Renowned insider Pierre LeBrun recently commented on a trade involving Montreal Canadiens defenseman David Savard. Based on the TSN journalist's information, it seems we will have to lower our expectations as the trade deadline approaches.
Personally, I was convinced that David Savard was worth a first-round draft pick, but LeBrun (who has strong NHL connections) doesn't seem to share that opinion.
As the excellent Charles-Alexis Brisebois just reported, considering the Canadiens have now acquired Alexandre Carrier, who could replace Savard, all eyes are on number 58 as the trade deadline nears.
A Disappointing Return in Exchange for David Savard?
Here's what Pierre Lebrun reported in his latest article:
«There will be sexier trade targets on the market, to be sure, but I think as a sixth or seventh defenseman who can help kill penalties and who won a Cup with the Lightning - plus is a right-shot D - he's a sensible idea for Edmonton. Especially considering I don't think Savard would cost an arm and a leg. That will be appealing for an Oilers team without a first-round pick this year.
Should we forget the idea of receiving a first-round pick in exchange for Savard?
One thing is certain, it seems to confirm that David Savard is unlikely to finish the current season with the Montreal Canadiens, and it really looks like he'll be traded before the deadline.
