An Unusual Request Involving Cole Caufield Has Been Submitted to Gary Bettman and the NHL

We all know that the young Montreal Canadiens forward Cole Caufield is one of the best scorers in the National Hockey League. We also know that he is one of the best scorers from the United States, and he should have been selected for the Four Nations Showdown.
However, that was not the case.
He was not chosen by General Manager Bill Guerin, who justified his decision by stating that they need players for every role, and the roles of scorers are filled by bigger guys like Auston Matthews (currently injured) and Jack Eichel.
That said, an interesting piece of information recently surfaced, revealing that Guerin was still eager to include Caufield in his lineup.
It's rare to see this, but he directly requested an exception from the NHL to specifically include Caufield on his team.
A Request Submitted to the NHL to Increase the Roster Size and Add Cole Caufield to Team USA
Indeed, according to information reported by Renaud Lavoie, it seems that General Manager Bill Guerin found it difficult to exclude Cole Caufield from his roster.
The goal behind this request was specifically to include none other than Cole Caufield, ensuring a well-deserved spot for one of the nation's best scorers.
This is interesting for two reasons.
First, it proves that it's true. Caufield was genuinely one of the finalists for a spot on Team USA.
Second, it shows that in the event of an injury (which, unfortunately, is likely to happen to at least one player), Caufield is likely to be called up quickly as a replacement.
This is definitely a story to keep in mind as the much-anticipated Four Nations Showdown approaches.
