Many were disappointed when they learned that Cole Caufield was overlooked by the American team for the 4 Nations Faceoff. It truly felt like the United States' top goal scorer at the time of the selection deserved a spot on this roster.
«I thought he had a really good chance, especially with the season he's having. He's kind of in the same boat as me.
So we're going to use it as fuel to move forward and make them regret it.»

Bill Guerin really did everything to include Cole Caufield in his lineup, and a replacement could be announced if needed
Overlooking the top American goals scorer is, to say the least, a bold choice.
However, the team's GM, Bill Guerin, seems to have tried everything to have him on board right from the start of the competition.
According to what Renaud Lavoie mentioned on
BPM Sports Tuesday morning, Guerin called the NHL to ask for the rosters to expand from 23 players to 25.
The purpose of this request: to have Cole Caufield in Ottawa and avoid having to call him up in case of an injury emergency.
Cole Caufield was therefore truly of interest to the United States
As you might have guessed, the NHL, which organizes the competition, refused to expand the rosters to 25 players.
Nevertheless, the additional information brought up by Renaud Lavoie shows that Caufield came very close to making the American team.
Being among the final 2-3 players cut demonstrates the depth of Bill Guerin's lineup.
It bears repeating, but in the case of injuries, do not be surprised if Caufield is the first player recalled and if we witness a twist, especially in light of this new information.
