We have more action on the National Hockey League waiver wire today.
We continue to monitor this closely, as Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens maintain a strong priority to claim players, thanks to their position in the overall standings.
First, a player has been claimed!
"The Utah HC claims
Dakota Mermis off the National Hockey League waiver wire from Toronto."
Chris Johnston
Dakota Mermis is a 30-year-old left-shot defenseman with 12 points in 74 career NHL games.
Two new players available on NHL waivers
See the announcement from the well-known Frank Seravalli.
"Today's NHL waivers:
The Oilers place defenseman
Travis Dermott on waivers.
The Utah HC claims Dakota Mermis off waivers from Toronto.
The Jets place forward Henri Nikkanen on unconditional waivers."
The interesting name here is undoubtedly Dermott.
Travis Dermott, 27 years old, is a 6-foot, 202-pound defenseman.
He was the 34th overall pick by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2015, essentially a first-round pick, and has recorded 62 points in 339 career games in the NHL (16 goals and 130 penalty minutes).
This season, he has played 10 games with the Edmonton Oilers after playing with the Arizona Coyotes last year.
As for Henri Nikkanen, he is a 21-year-old Finnish forward with an impressive 6 foot 5 frame, and weighs 207 pounds.
Details will follow tomorrow.
