New Detail in the Patrik Laine Trade Revealed, Making it Even Better for Canadiens

The Patrik Laine trade, completed between the Montreal Canadiens and the Columbus Blue Jackets, is turning out to be an excellent decision for Kent Hughes.
The trade itself, with just the acquisition of Laine, is already a home run for the Canadiens, but that's not even the whole story.
Recall that on August 19, the Canadiens acquired Patrik Laine and a
2nd-round pick in 2026 in exchange for defenseman
Jordan Harris.
Well, as the excellent Marc-Olivier Beaudoin recently pointed out, that 2nd-round pick could be much more valuable than expected.
The Columbus Blue Jackets' rebuild, despite several acquisitions including the talented
Sean Monahan, is unfortunately not going as planned.
Jordan Harris traded for Patrik Laine and practically a 1st-round pick?
Quietly, the pick acquired along with Patrik Laine, in exchange for Jordan Harris, could realistically turn into almost a first-round pick.
Imagine if it ends up being something like the 35th overall pick, or something close to that.
«We haven't talked about it much, but the pick received in the Patrik Laine trade (CBJ 2026 2nd) could very well end up being around +- 40th. That's practically a first-round pick!»
- Marc-Olivier Beaudoin
As of now, the Blue Jackets sit in 25th place in the NHL standings, and it doesn't look like things will improve next season.
But the Patrik Laine trade could become one of the best trades of the decade for the Canadiens.
We're eager to see how this story develops.
In Columbus this season, Jordan Harris has recorded 1 point in 19 games, with a negative +/- rating of -7.
