The major trade involving Christian Dvorak, between the Montreal Canadiens and the former Arizona Coyotes, has just been completed.
Following the 2024 NHL Draft, we can now put names and specifics to the Dvorak trade.
We have a final verdict.
Let's recall that after the offer sheet made to Jesperi Kotkaniemi by the Carolina Hurricanes, general manager Marc Bergevin panicked and concluded a major trade with the (former) Arizona Coyotes.
The Christian Dvorak trade is now finalized, and all the picks have been used
Dvorak was traded to the Montreal Canadiens for a first-round pick (2022) and a second-round pick (2024).
A trade that turned into a nightmare for the Habs.
The 2022 first-round pick became the promising Filip Bystedt, but now, we also know what became of the 2024 second-round pick involved in the trade.
Here is the complete and final trade between the Canadiens and the Coyotes:
To Montreal: · Christian Dvorak
To Utah: · Filip Bystedt (27th overall pick in 2022) · Alfons Freij (37th overall pick in 2024)
So, if Marc Bergevin had not made this trade, instead of Dvorak, Kent Hughes could have added prospects like Filip Bystedt (whom the Canadiens liked a lot in 2022), Jiri Kulich, or Brad Lambert.
And last week, Kent Hughes could have traded that 37th overall pick for a high price, or selected a high-quality prospect, like Andrew Basha, Cole Hutson, or Alfons Freij...
In short, we can confirm that it was a terrible trade for the Montreal Canadiens, but at least, we can now turn the page.
