Bettman suddenly takes away the Stanley Cup from the Panthers mid-evening
Gary Bettman and the NHL have just taken back the Stanley Cup from the Florida Panthers for a very specific reason.
While Matthew Tkachuk and his team were in the midst of celebrations, the precious trophy, which is unfortunately quite damaged, was taken away.
The big "party" of the Panthers left marks on the Cup.
The Stanley Cup is taken from the Panthers to engrave the trophy
In short, the NHL removed the Cup from the Panthers' players so that Ms. Louise St-Jacques could engrave the names of the players and staff members on it.
Obviously, it's an excellent reason, but many are questioning the NHL's "timing." It's quick!
Could it have waited? The Panthers' players did not have the Stanley Cup for very long, but it needed to be repaired first and foremost.
"According to NHL.com, Phil Prichard, the keeper of the Cup, packed up the Stanley Cup after a late and festive night following the championship celebration on Sunday in Fort Lauderdale.
On Monday, Prichard flew to Montreal where he handed over the Stanley Cup to Louise St. Jacques, who will work on engraving the names of the 52 players and staff members into the silverware.
According to Dave Stubbs' article on NHL.com, St. Jacques had to disassemble the trophy, then repair 'the damage and polish the silver and nickel alloy.'"

So, the Cup was literally taken from the Panthers' players in the middle of their celebration. (in the midst of their "party")
It's quite peculiar, let's admit it.
The journalist also reports that the Stanley Cup will be repaired, as it has suffered considerable damage over the past few days.
