As you know, a major trade was announced yesterday by the Edmonton Oilers, involving Matthew Savoie and Ryan McLeod.

This is a very particular transaction, as the Sabres traded their 2022 9th overall pick, Matthew Savoie, for two depth players.

"Ryan McLeod and Ty Tullio have been traded to Buffalo for Matt Savoie (9th overall pick in 2022). First on the news: Elliotte Friedman."

- Via journalist Jason Gregor

McLeod is 24 years old, and he has accumulated 34 points in 105 games this season (including playoffs and regular season).

He recorded 4 points in 24 playoff games.

Good news for the Montreal Canadiens and Kent Hughes in the Rutger McGroarty case?

As you know, most experts believe the Oilers robbed the Sabres on this deal.

You also know that Kent Hughes is currently trying to acquire the player drafted 5 spots behind Matthew Savoie in 2022, Rutger McGroarty, who is the 14th overall pick of that draft.

We thought the Canadiens would have to pay a hefty price for McGroarty, but judging by what the Sabres got for Savoie, it clearly lowers the value of the young Jets forward, especially since he has practically requested a trade.

This is positive and good news for the Montreal Canadiens.

If Kent Hughes is able to acquire McGroarty at a good price via trade, it will truly be a perfect summer for the Habs.
