Kent Hughes on the Verge of Acquiring Hometown Talent Anthony Mantha?
Just a few days away from the trade deadline, it will be interesting to see what Kent Hughes will do to improve his team.
Even though it's becoming increasingly evident that the Canadiens will be sellers again this year, nothing stops the team's GM from continuing his work for the next season, and there's a player who could very well end up in Montreal in the coming months.
As reported by the site Habsolumentfan.com, Anthony Mantha's name has been circulating in several trade rumors for a year, and there was even a trade proposal between the Canadiens and the Washington Capitals.
This proposal that sent Joel Armia to Washington in return for Mantha was even reported by insider David Pagnotta, mentioning that Kent Hughes had discussed with his counterpart from the Capitals, but as you can see, this transaction never took place.
But now, as part of the show On jase, presented on RDS, host Martin Lemay also revisited the possibility of seeing the Quebec forward arrive in Montreal next season.
«What was criticized about Anthony Mantha at the time, and it's Ken Holland who told me this in an interview, is that he will become the player he wants to be the day he decides to get involved! When he stops thinking that it's up to others to go fetch the puck in the corner.
Today, he is 29 years old. If Anthony Mantha plays with commitment and finally meets the expectations people have for his great talent, I would take him in Montreal tomorrow morning!
Next year, he won't be fighting for a big contract. He will be fighting for a contract, period! I would be very surprised if he signs a contract for more than 5 million dollars per season due to the results of the last few years and the assessments of Holland and Steve Yzerman!»
