Insider Confirms Flyers Submitted Trade Offer to Canadiens and Tried to Land Fan-Favourite
It's always interesting to get information about real trade offers that have been submitted-especially when it involves the Montreal Canadiens.
The rumor had been circulating quite a bit, but insider David Pagnotta has now confirmed a major one (and with conviction, too).
It involves a trade offer that was submitted to Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens by Daniel Brière and
the Philadelphia Flyers.
David Pagnotta confirms an offer submitted by the Flyers to the Montreal Canadiens
Here's an excerpt from what the insider said during an interview with the excellent Tony Marinaro.
"A year ago, they turned down a first-round pick in exchange for
Arber Xhekaj. [...]"
"Which teams wanted Xhekaj?"
"Philadelphia was one of them, I can tell you that with certainty and I can confirm it."
So now we know, the Philadelphia Flyers are big fans of Xhekaj-but more importantly, so are the Montreal Canadiens.
Looking back, do you think Kent Hughes made the right call by rejecting that trade offer?
It's true that Xhekaj didn't have an outstanding season, but he remains a very useful player with intriguing upside.
The 24-year-old, 6-foot-4, 240-pound defenseman registered 6 points in 70 games during the 2024-25 season, with a -13 rating and 118 penalty minutes.
He and his brother could both become valuable assets for Martin St. Louis' squad, especially in the playoffs over the next few years.
