Since the elimination of the Carolina Hurricanes, Martin Necas' name has been circulating in several discussions in Montreal and across the NHL.

The reason is simple.
The Canes are tight under the NHL salary cap, and they won't be able to keep everyone (notably due to Jesperi Kotkaniemi's contract), so they will have to make some tough decisions. In line with these decisions, they have reportedly decided to prioritize the signings of Jake Guentzel and Seth Jarvis, leaving Necas on the back burner.

It's just been confirmed for Martin Necas: he is available on the trade market and the Montreal Canadiens are involved in this derby, according to David Pagnotta

In a text published just minutes ago, the informant has indeed confirmed everything.
«The Hurricanes have prioritized signing Seth Jarvis to a long-term contract, while Necas' future seems a bit unclear.»

«Two separate sources have recently told TFP that the Hurricanes are willing to explore a trade [for Martin Necas], even though Waddell does not go into details [for obvious reasons].» - David Pagnotta

So don't be surprised if Necas is traded in the coming weeks, and certainly don't be surprised if he is traded to Montreal, because Kent Hughes is in the race:
«It's believed that several teams have varying levels of interest in Necas, including the Calgary Flames, the Montreal Canadiens, the Philadelphia Flyers, the Nashville Predators, the San Jose Sharks, and Utah.» - David Pagnotta

One thing is certain, the Hurricanes do not have the necessary funds to keep Jake Guentzel, Seth Jarvis, and Necas, and they have clearly announced that they will prioritize the first two.
A big file to follow for the Montreal Canadiens and their fans.
Martin Necas, 25, is a 6-foot-2, 190-pound center who can also play as a winger. He was the 12th overall pick in 2017 (1st round) and has accumulated 243 points in 362 NHL games.
In the last two seasons, he has collected 71 and 53 points.
