The American stirs so much ink that as soon as his name is mentioned, we are sure to have a debate. There is no consensus about him, and his detractors are almost as numerous as his admirers.
We saw this winter when his name was linked to the Canadiens and Kent Hughes.
As if to calm things down and restore Zegras's reputation a bit, Frank Seravalli tried to explain why Zegras had a miserable season by putting things into perspective.
According to him, the young forward is simply misunderstood.
While the excellent hockey insider's remarks make sense, there is little chance they will calm the Ducks forward's detractors. These people have a predefined image of Zegras, and it will be difficult to remove it.
Nevertheless, seeing the forward with the Canadiens would be most interesting. Especially when we know what Martin St-Louis's contribution can bring to a young player. He could very well become an excellent player with the Montreal club and silence many critics.
Sometimes, all a player needs is a change of scenery and a fresh start. So, at the right price, why not?
Zegras, 23, has 154 points, including 55 goals, in 211 NHL games. He has a contract until 2026, earning $5.75 million.
