We have a trade to announce involving the Montreal Canadiens.

It's done! Goaltender Cayden Primeau's time with the Canadiens organization has come to an end.
He has just been traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for a late-round draft pick.

Here's the confirmation.
"The Canadiens have acquired a 7th-round pick in 2026 from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for goaltender Cayden Primeau's negotiating rights."

We wish Primeau the very best of luck! He'll get a fresh start!
This trade also opens the door for Jacob Fowler, who is now expected to take on a bigger role within the organization.
At 25 years old, Cayden Primeau is a 6-foot-3, 205-pound goalie who was originally selected in the 7th round by the Montreal Canadiens in 2017. He had a season of two halves.
First, a very rough start in the NHL (4.70 GAA and .836 save percentage), but later, an absolutely outstanding season in the AHL (1.96 GAA and .927 save percentage with a record of 21 wins, 2 losses, and 2 overtime losses).
Do you think Primeau will become a regular NHL goaltender one day?
Behind Frederik Andersen, who unfortunately is often injured, Primeau could very well get his shot in Carolina.
More details to come.
