Another Forward Packs His Bags and Immediately Leaves the Montreal Canadiens
We've got action today in the NHL and with the Montreal Canadiens.
While numerous signings have been announced in the past few minutes, a second departure has now been confirmed for the Habs.
Earlier today, we learned that Quebec forward Rafaël Harvey-Pinard did not receive a qualifying offer from the Canadiens - and now, we've just learned that a second fan-favorite forward has faced the same fate.
Renaud Lavoie reports that Xavier Simoneau also did not receive a qualifying offer from the Canadiens and will become an unrestricted free agent as of tomorrow
See the confirmation from TVA Sports journalist:
Xavier Simoneau, 24 years old, is a 5-foot-7, 178-pound forward who was selected 191st overall (sixth round) by the Montreal Canadiens in 2021.
He is not a pick made by the Canadiens' current management team, led by Kent Hughes.
This season with the Laval Rocket, he recorded 21 points in 58 games, including 5 goals, and racked up 88 penalty minutes.
Last season, also in Laval, he tallied 37 points in 53 games, including 9 goals, and had 111 penalty minutes.
We wish him the best of luck going forward and hope he gets another opportunity with an NHL team, even if it didn't work out here with the Canadiens.
A reminder that NHL free agency opens tomorrow at noon.
More details to come.
