Following the elimination of the Vancouver Canucks against the Edmonton Oilers last night, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton finally have their answer.
We now know the exact draft position of the Winnipeg Jets' first-round pick, which was acquired by the Montreal Canadiens in the
Sean Monahan trade, and thus this trade is finalized.
The Canadiens ultimately acquire the 26th overall pick in 2024 in exchange for Sean Monahan
It's not ideal, and it's obviously worse than the 22nd overall pick that some were predicting, but we trust that the Habs will find a good player or make a good trade with this late first-round pick in 2024.
«Now that the second round of the 2024 NHL playoffs is behind us, we now know the order of the first 28 selections of next month's draft.

25- Ottawa (Via BOS)
26- Montreal (Via WPG)
27- Carolina
28- Calgary (Via VAN)» - CapFriendly
Things are falling into place!
Monahan, 29, ultimately amassed 24 points in 34 games with the Jets, including 13 goals.
Some expected him to return to the Canadiens this summer, as he will be an unrestricted free agent, but he recently mentioned that his priority is to play for a Stanley Cup contender.
With this 26th overall pick, expect many analysts to talk about young
Sacha Boisvert, a native of Trois-Rivières.
He amassed 68 points in 61 games this season in the USHL, including 36 goals. He will continue his journey with North Dakota University starting next season.
In the end, do you think this is a good trade by Kent Hughes? Monahan for the 26th overall pick in 2024?
