Now that Sean Monahan has left the Montreal Canadiens, and knowing that we are in a very fertile market for sellers like Kent Hughes, the attention of experts is now turning to two other players (ahead of the trade deadline):
- Goalie Jake Allen, as you know, who will not bring in much.
- And defenseman David Savard, who could, for his part, fetch a significant return.
The excellent Marco D'Amico has recently delved into the price to pay to acquire David Savard, and here it is.
"The Canadiens will probably want a 1st round pick and more, for David Savard."
Wow!
So, it would be similar to the Ben Chiarot transaction, which brought Ty Smilanic, a 4th round pick, and a 1st round pick to Kent Hughes in 2022.
At that price, would you trade Savard?
It must be said that the team that seems to be the most interested in acquiring the veteran defenseman, the Tampa Bay Lightning, does not have its next two first-round picks.
This explains the rumors involving Ethan Gauthier, who could "replace" the value of the 1st round pick in a possible Canadiens/Lightning transaction for David Savard.
