A Kotkaniemi trade back to MTL emerges online and we have a verdict

As the Hurricanes face off against the Montreal Canadiens tonight at the Bell Centre, things are not going well for Jesperi Kotkaniemi.

As we reported this morning, Kotkaniemi is unfortunately currently stuck in a four-player rotation on his team's fourth line.

It seems he is really no longer in the plans for Carolina, and his contract of $4.82 million per season until 2030 is becoming a huge burden for them.

And if there's one thing we know very well about their owner, Tom Dundon, it's that he hates overpaying his players.

He is a rather frugal owner, and he is an owner who will refuse to pay nearly 5 million per year for a player who barely plays, like Jesperi Kotkaniemi. (and who has less than 10 points in his last 50 games)

So, do not be surprised if he orders his GM to get rid of this contract.

Knowing all this, we asked you a question over the last few hours.

Would you acquire Jesperi Kotkaniemi and a 1st round pick, in Kent Hughes' place, for future considerations?

We are talking about a trade similar to the Sean Monahan transaction.

You have given your verdict and it is extremely clear. You want nothing more to do with Kotkaniemi. (not even with a 1st round pick as a bonus)

Nearly 82% of the thousands of respondents to the poll answered that "NO" they would not even want a 1st round pick to take Jesperi Kotkaniemi, for free.

That says a lot.

You were also 91% to tell us that you would refuse to trade Jake Evans, for Jesperi Kotkaniemi in a "1 for 1" trade. (and we absolutely agree with you once again)

This shows how much the Habs' 3rd overall pick in 2018 has unfortunately lost its luster...
