Wow: Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens would have acquired a 30-goal scorer by acquiring Alex Newhook
Did Kent Hughes finally do it again?
Did he manage to get another Kirby Dach? It's obviously too early to tell, but the least we can say is that Alex Newhook, formerly of the Colorado Avalanche, had a solid start with the Montreal Canadiens.
In his first game with the Tricolore, Newhook scored two goals, in just under 17 minutes of playing time. Very solid! His speed was evident, and he was everywhere on the ice.
We quickly saw why he was drafted in the first round in 2019. His line, with Kirby Dach and Juraj Slafkovsky, was splendid.
Let's obviously remember that Kent Hughes acquired Newhook last June, just before the NHL draft, for the 31st overall pick and the 37th overall pick. (plus Gianni Fairbrother)
Everything indicates that this transaction could be another big hit for the Canadiens' GM.
On this subject, see what a Colorado journalist/expert, who knows Newhook very well, just declared.
"Newhook will make the Avalanche regret trading him, as he will have a 30-goal season in 2023-2024.
Newhook scored his second goal of the game against the Leafs. He's going to have fun, score 30 goals, and really make the Avalanche regret the trade."
Drew Livingstone
We love it, especially when it comes from a journalist who covers the Avalanche, not the Canadiens.
In hindsight, do you believe it was a good trade by Kent Hughes?
