A very interesting new piece of information has just been revealed.

We have just learned what Kent Hughes could receive, in addition to Mathieu Joseph, in a trade with the Ottawa Senators.
Let's remember that the Canadiens are open to concluding a new «Sean Monahan style» trade, meaning to receive a salary plus a draft pick, in exchange for future considerations.
Let's also remember that the Senators absolutely must free up salary very quickly, otherwise, they are apparently going to lose their very promising young center Shane Pinto.
Pinto is currently a restricted free agent (RFA), but Ottawa has no cap space to sign him.
So, it seems that Mathieu Joseph, with a contract of $2.9 million over three years, is at the heart of discussions in Ottawa for a trade.
The Canadiens is one of the few clubs that can help Dorion and have the necessary space.
But at what price?
According to Anthony Di Marco, here is what has just come out.
«As Ottawa looks to free up cap space, they have continued to explore options to trade Mathieu Joseph's contract and the 3 years (2.95 million of AAV) remaining on his deal.

According to multiple league sources, it would take a first-round pick or an equivalent prospect to do it.»

Wow, Kent Hughes could, therefore, receive Mathieu Joseph and a first-round pick, for nothing.
«The price asked of teams willing to assume a cap hit of about 3 million dollars is a first-round pick or a top prospect.»

To be continued.
