Trade Rumor Involving Jesperi Kotkaniemi: He Could Already be Out of Carolina
It's not a surprise. As you know, the Carolina Hurricanes are seriously trying to acquire star defenseman Erik Karlsson.
They are, along with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the favorites to land him after he just finished a historic season with 101 points (according to many sources).
However, to make this happen, they need to free up money.
As mentioned by Félix Forget, one of the serious candidates who could be let go is Jesperi Kotkaniemi. Unfortunately, he currently earns too much for what he brings to the Canes, and they are aware of that.
Kotkaniemi has now been linked to the San Jose Sharks in a trade:
Trading KK would free up $4.82 million in cap space for the Hurricanes, and his profile as a young center, recently drafted third overall, could be of interest to the Sharks in a trade.
So here is the circulating scenario:
TO THE SHARKS:
Jesperi Kotkaniemi
Brett Pesce
Picks or prospects
Possible salary retention for Karlsson
TO THE CANES:
Erik Karlsson This is something to keep an eye on, but it's a real possibility that Kotkaniemi could be involved in a trade for Karlsson.
At just 23 years old, it would already be his third team.
According to you, who would win the above trade?
