There is news regarding the trade completed today between the Canadiens and the Stars, which involved Denis Gurianov
In the past few minutes, we reported that the Montreal Canadiens have completed a trade with the Dallas Stars. Kent Hughes acquired a promising prospect in Denis Gurianov, and in exchange, he traded Evgenii Dadonov.
It wasn't highlighted in the official statement from the Montreal Canadiens, but there's an important element to know (for those who missed it).
It is indeed a "one for one" trade, but it should be noted that the Montreal Canadiens are retaining 50% of Dadonov's salary in the exchange (2.5 million).
It's still a solid transaction for Kent Hughes, but contrary to what many thought, it doesn't free up any cap space for the Canadiens under the NHL salary cap.
Gurianov, for his part, counts for $2,900,000 against the salary cap this season and will be a restricted free agent afterwards. He certainly has a lot of talent and potential.
"Dadonov for Gurianov is a good bet for Kent Hughes and the Canadiens. An ultra-talented player who will have the opportunity to play more freely under Martin St. Louis. [...]" - Eric Engels
We love it!
