Last night on TSN, during his traditional appearance in the "Insider Trading" segment, renowned insider Darren Dreger dropped major information regarding a trade involving Sean Monahan.
Is the Sean Monahan trade case settled?
According to Dreger's sources, Monahan's days in Montreal are truly numbered, and these aren't just rumors. It's confirmed.
The TSN journalist publicly revealed that there is already an agreement in place between Kent Hughes and Sean Monahan, involving a promise to trade him to a Stanley Cup-contending team or a team of his choice. Wow.
« You got to go back to the off-season when the Canadiens signed Sean Monahan they had an agreement at that point that said we will trade you when the time is right to a contending team or to a team of your choice, nothing has changed there...» - Darren Dreger
Dreger adds that he wouldn't be surprised if Monahan is one of the next few players traded in the NHL, especially if the CH continues to plummet in the overall standings.
A 2024 1st round pick could be a possibility in exchange for Monahan, but in any case, we can count on GM Hughes to acquire the best possible return in the trade.
The 29-year-old center has 11 goals and 13 assists, for 24 points, in 40 games this season with the Habs.
This is a major case to watch.
«Without surprises (at least for me), Sean Monahan will be traded by the trade deadline.
They can try to re-sign him on July 1st, but Monahan will likely want to sign with a contending club, and that's normal!» - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin
