Montreal Canadiens trade involving Carey Price? New information indicates we should not hold our breath on this matter
Last summer, the Montreal Canadiens traded Shea Weber's contract.
Many see goaltender Carey Price in the same predicament that Weber was in, and thus, many are wondering if a trade involving Carey is possible.
The answer may already be known.
As reported by Félix Forget, these are two different cases:
"A year later, the Habs find themselves in a somewhat similar situation with Carey Price's contract (compared to Shea Weber). However, this time, don't hold your breath: Kent Hughes won't be able to get rid of this one."
In short, it must be understood that there were no more bonuses left to pay on Weber's contract, and he was making "only" one million a year. (but with a cap hit of nearly 8 million)
This made it a very appealing contract for a team like the Arizona Coyotes.
The case of Price is very different.
His actual salary is double that of Weber, but in addition, he gets a bonus of $5.5 million, paid in a single installment on July 1st each year.
For an owner like that of the Coyotes, it's far from appealing for him.
According to many experts, because of the structure of his contract in particular, Carey Price will not be traded by the Montreal Canadiens.
At least, not in the short term.
