Major trade concluded between the Montreal Canadiens and the Florida Panthers last year: it has just been completed with the acquisition of Alex Newhook
As you know, this is a transaction that's been buzzing for a while and that we've been following for a while, especially because of the Florida Panthers' unprotected 2023 1st round pick.
TO CANADIENS:
- Ty Smilanic
- 4th round pick 2022 (became Cedrick Guindon)
- 31st overall pick in 2023
TO THE PANTHERS:
-
Ben Chiarot
The infamous unprotected 2023 1st round pick from the Panthers gave us a run for our money over the past few months.
It went from a possible top-5 overall pick, to a top-10 pick, to a top-15 pick, to a 31st overall pick.
Indeed, this transaction of Ben Chiarot is now officially settled, following the trade concluded yesterday afternoon for the young Newhook.
All the pieces are known, and here's the verdict.
For a few weeks of Ben Chiarot's services, plus Gianni Fairbrother, plus a second-round pick, the Montreal Canadiens got this:
Alex Newhook, Ty Smilanic, and Cedrick Guindon.
