Trade concluded today: Kent Hughes on the verge of making another significant announcement
Following the acquisition of young Alex Newhook today, Kent Hughes is already on the verge of making an announcement about him, as notably reported by Renaud Lavoie.
Many of you have pointed it out, but technically, the Habs acquired the rights to Alex Newhook as he is a restricted free agent.
However, unsurprisingly, there is no cause for concern. Kent Hughes is brilliant and he has done his homework.
Regarding the Alex Newhook transaction : "It would not have been done if the Montreal Canadiens did not have an idea that a contract extension with Newhook was possible. The chances of him playing in MTL next season are therefore very high." - Renaud Lavoie
Imminent announcement: Newhook about to sign
David Pagnotta even added that an announcement to this effect would be imminent.
Let's say the fact that Kent Hughes was Newhook's agent won't hurt:
In short, expect the Habs to announce Newhook's signing soon.
We are expecting a contract similar to the one signed by Kirby Dach, even likely slightly lower (Dach signed for four seasons at $3.3 million per year.)
Let's say it will be far less than the $8.5 million per year for Pierre-Luc Dubois.
