Big last-minute surprise on waivers: Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens have an intriguing opportunity
Even though the deadline was yesterday, we still have some NHL waivers action in the NHL today as teams finalize their plan.
There's notably a big surprise.
See the full list, as reported by Chris Johnston from TSN.
The big surprise is definitely the Quebecer Alex Barré-Boulet.
Since he turned pro in 2018, ABB is the second-highest scorer in the entire AHL. That's huge.
He has 284 PTS in 271 games and has clearly become too dominant for that league. (84 points in 69 games last season, plus 9 points in 5 playoff games)
Clearly, he doesn't belong in the AHL and a team might give him a chance and claim him.
He reminds me so much of Jonathan Marchessault before his breakout.
Could he be a target for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens? Stay tuned.
