An expert may have just revealed Jonathan Drouin's next team and it's causing a stir
Even though Jonathan Drouin has been playing good hockey for the past few weeks, it hasn't been enough for another NHL team to show interest in his services during the last trade deadline.
As a result, Drouin remains a member of the Canadiens and will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. Although some claim that Kent Hughes should offer him a new contract, it seems increasingly evident that the number 27 will play elsewhere in 2023-2024. As reported by Jean-Christophe Matte from Fanadiens.com, a former NHL player might have a clue about the Quebec-born forward's next destination.
During his segment on Jean-Charles Lajoie's show on TVA Sports, Antoine Roussel shared his prediction while criticizing his former team:
"I played in a graveyard of hockey players in Arizona. If Jonathan doesn't necessarily have a contract, Arizona could try to sign him to relaunch him and trade him at the deadline. That's what they do. That's what they'll do for the next eight years. Bill Armstrong has said it several times. It's a disgrace for the NHL. I tip my hat to André Tourigny for keeping his cool and steering the ship. Obviously, it's not easy."
As we know, the Coyotes currently have several players under contract with them who aren't even playing in the NHL. Just think of Shea Weber, whose contract was traded to them at the trade deadline.
But let's try to see the positive side in all of this. The Coyotes will have several draft picks over the next few seasons, and eventually, this team could become competitive.
And what about Jonathan Drouin?
The fact remains that he will be 28 years old when the next season starts, and as I have mentioned for a while now, a change of scenery will undoubtedly do him a world of good.
Will it be in Arizona? We will likely have the answer after July 1st, 2023.
