This actually confirms a big rumor that has been circulating about the veteran defenseman: Kent Hughes is already attempting to trade him again.

Everything indicates that the former #26 of the Canadiens won't even play a single game with the Blue-White-Red team in the 2023-2024 season. He is expected to be traded before the start of the regular season, which begins on October 10th.

According to information from the reputable David Pagnotta, revealed on NHL Network, Kent Hughes contacted other NHL teams last week to inform them that defenseman Jeff Petry was available.

Wow! So, even before finalizing the trade with the Penguins, the Canadiens' general manager was trying to trade Petry. This could have potentially turned into a four-team trade, just imagine!
