The Commissioner of the National Hockey League, Gary Bettman, just made a last-minute historic announcement for his league during the Stanley Cup Finals.

Will this make him aware of certain points? To be continued, but we have just learned that games #5 and #6 of the Stanley Cup Final, between the Florida Panthers and the Edmonton Oilers, were among the most-watched in NHL history. Wow!

Historic Viewership Ratings for Gary Bettman and the NHL

The 5th game was watched by 8.5 million viewers across North America, an increase of 61% compared to the same game in last year's final series.

«8.5 million viewers watched the fifth game of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final across North America.» - NHL

This is a historic increase, especially when compared to the same games last year, between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Florida Panthers in 2023.

Obviously, one of the factors that completely changes the scenario is the fact that in 2024, unlike in 2023, a Canadian team is participating in the grand final.

Will Gary Bettman finally realize the importance of hockey in Canada?

If this isn't enough, let's recall that one of the other most-watched Stanley Cup Finals in NHL history involved another Canadian team, the Montreal Canadiens.

It would be great for the Commissioner to realize this, especially when it comes time to grant a new expansion team.

Very well said!
