While Canadiens fans are only interested in the fifth overall pick, it's worth remembering that Kent Hughes has another first-round pick, acquired from the Florida Panthers last year in the Ben Chiarot trade.

However, this pick is likely to be a late first-round selection, as the Panthers currently hold a 3-1 lead over the Toronto Maple Leafs at the time of writing. As reported by Marco Normandin from Habsolumentfan.com, a former member of the organization had an interesting suggestion about the player Kent Hughes should select at the end of the first round.

During his appearance on the 98.5 podcast Sortie de Zone, former goaltending coach Stéphane Waite said the team's management absolutely had to target a goaltender with this pick, and he even mentioned the names of three young goalies the Canadiens' management should keep an eye on in the coming weeks.

"Now, it's time for projects! It's time to draft a goalie we know will play in the NHL. I can even give you three names the Canadiens should target late in the first round. Carson Bjarnason, Michael Hrabal, and Alexander Hellnemo."

Although these three youngsters may represent long-term projects, it must be said that if there is one position where the Habs lack depth, it's in goal.

By the way, we love Hrabal. He is a true monster at 6 feet 6 inches and 215 pounds (and he's only 18).

With the presence of Jake Allen and Samuel Montembeault, selecting a young goaltending prospect would give the organization time to develop a young goalie for the coming years and also properly assess other needs within the organization.
