The worst-case scenario has just been confirmed for Hughes and Canadiens fans following the trade with the Panthers involving Ben Chiarot

Following the Pittsburgh Penguins' regulation time loss to the Chicago Blackhawks last night, the Florida Panthers officially secured their spot in the playoffs.

Its means that their 2023 first-round draft pick, currently belonging to Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens, will not be in the running for the Connor Bedard lottery.

At best, it will be a pick in the second half of the first round, which is unfortunate news for us. Ouch.

It's quite a turn of events, considering we thought it could be a top-5 pick around Christmas time. imagine!
