Plot twist regarding a promising young goaltender ahead of the draft: Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens could take advantage of it

It's very rare that we see this, but we've just been treated to quite a surprise ahead of the 2023 National Hockey League draft, and Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens could take advantage of it.

Plot twist. The agent of promising young goaltender Ben Gaudreau has just announced that he will not be signing with the San Jose Sharks.

Result? He has just been added to the available names in the upcoming draft. He's back in the Draft!

Obviously, the Montreal Canadiens are in need of good young goalies, so it could certainly interest the Montreal management.

"Ben Gaudreau is back in the draft! Due to the evolving goaltending landscape, we have decided to go back into the draft,' Gaudreau's agent, Eddie Mio of Octagon Sports Management, texted San Jose Hockey Now today."

Gaudreau, 20, was drafted in the 3rd round in 2021 by the Sharks. He was considered the third-best goalie in that highly talented crop of netminders (behind the excellent Jesper Wallstedt and Seb Cossa).

He won 34 of his 59 starts this season in the OHL (with a .900 save percentage).

Fans also remember him from the recent World Junior Championship, where he was one of Team Canada's goaltenders.

It's reminiscent of what happened with Frederik Andersen, who was drafted in 2010 by the Carolina Hurricanes and then again in 2012 by the Anaheim Ducks.

Do you believe Gaudreau will be drafted by the Habs?
