There has been a lot of news in the Matvei Michkov case today.

This Monday morning, the website TVA Sports made a big hit in the thorny case of Matvei Michkov.

Indeed, the excellent Anthony Martineau managed to interview Michkov's current assistant coach, Daniel Bochner, who is also the player development instructor for the organization.

He was very reassuring about the future of the young forward, at the end of the 2025-2026 season:

Let's make one thing clear: SKA does not hold athletes against their will. Since I joined the club, Artem Zub, Vladislav Gavrikov, Alexander Barabanov, Igor Shesterkin, Artemi Panarin, Kirill Marchenko, Vasily Podkolzin, and Andrei Kuzmenko have all left for the NHL, at the end of their agreement. And we're talking about excellent players! I think when you have a good program and one of your representatives wants to show his skills against the best players in the world in the NHL, things fall into place on their own. - Daniel Bochner

It didn't stop there, Martineau also managed to chat with Dmitri Zavgorodniy, a Russian phenomenon teammate with HC Sochi who has also already played in the QMJHL, with the Oceanic de Rimouski. He revealed that Michkov's goal is definitely to play in the NHL.

He definitely wants to play in the NHL. It's his dream! Understand that all hockey players want to play in the NHL and win the Stanley Cup. I can tell you he is very excited to be drafted. He often asks me how things are going in Canada and the United States. He asks me what the leaders of the different teams will look at him and how he should behave. I just keep telling him to stay himself. People will like him very quickly. - Dmitri Zavgorodniy

Zavgorodniy had a piece of advice for Kent Hughes, if Michkov was still available at the 5th rank:

If I were the general manager of the Canadiens and realized that Matvei was still available at the fifth rank, I would be speechless... and I would definitely take him! This guy instantly raises the level of competition on your team. - Dmitri Zavgorodniy

For the fans, Alexis Lafrenière's former teammate with the Oceanic had this to say:

Matvei is like the people of Montreal: he's a hockey enthusiast! He's one of you! Michkov and Montreal, it sounds like a 'perfect mix' to me!- Dmitri Zavgorodniy

All this makes us even more eager to see the young Russian phenomenon selected by Kent Hughes next month in Nashville. It will also be interesting to see if Kent Hughes, but especially the Montreal organization, will dare to select him!
