Last-minute surprise during the official measurement of Connor Bedard
On this final day of the infamous 2023 'Combine' for the National Hockey League ahead of the draft, it was a day of measurements for several players, including the phenomenon Connor Bedard.
There are sometimes surprises on this day, because the heights and weights of some players do not always match the information we have. (which often comes from junior teams)
Some believe that junior teams sometimes add an inch or two to certain players, to help them rank higher on some lists. (or about ten pounds)
However, today, each player was measured with great precision and in the same way.
A surprise for Connor Bedard
While young Bedard is listed at 5 feet 10 and a half inches almost everywhere, even at 5 feet 11 inches in some places, the verdict has just come down.
Bedard is just over 5 feet 9 inches.
Granted, this changes absolutely nothing about the fact that he will be the Chicago Blackhawks' first overall choice in just over two weeks, but it is currently the talk of the town in Chicago.
Connor Bedard comes in at 5'9 .75" in height.
Where it gets interesting is that Bedard will therefore officially become the smallest first overall choice in NHL history.
At 5 feet 10 inches, there have been a few, such as Patrick Kane and Jack Hughes more recently, but Bedard would officially be the smallest.
