Draft Trade: Surprise Statement as Kent Hughes Might trade His 5 Overall Pick
Sportsnet journalist Eric Engels, who covers the activities of the Montreal Canadiens, has just published a very interesting article, reporting what he has seen and heard in recent days from certain sources.
This particularly concerns the Montreal Canadiens' first-round choice (#5 pick).
A major statement notably caught our attention.
We're told that it's just as, if not more, likely that they're going to make a trade to move back. (at the start of the first round of the draft)

Wow. We knew that the Habs had tried to move up to the 2nd or 4th overall pick, by making a trade with the Ducks or with the Sharks, but now it seems more likely to see Kent Hughes moving his pick back.
Honestly, if Kent Hughes ever moves back to the 8th or 10th pick, and that allows him to get a very valuable mid-first-round pick, it could be a very satisfying scenario. (especially if they don't intend to draft Matvei Michkov)
Drafting a Dalibor Dvorsky, a David Reinbacher, or a Ryan Leonard at the 10th overall pick, would be much less disappointing than doing it at the 5th overall pick.
It could also allow Kent Hughes to make a big splash, by getting his hands on two of the targeted players.
In short, Hughes is not idle and he is spending a lot of time on the phone these days. He is considering several options. We imagine that the Washington Capitals would be willing to pay the high price to secure the services of Michkov.
