The legendary Washington Capitals forward, Alex Ovechkin, has never been one to hold his tongue. He had already made an interesting comment about Montreal Canadiens fans and their passion even before the start of their first-round series.
In the past few hours, Ovechkin has done it again.
A few minutes after Friday's game - after the first playoff game in a packed Bell Centre since 2017 - Ovechkin tried to downplay the situation.
He didn't seem impressed at all by the Bell Centre crowd:
Question to Alex Ovechkin:
"Do you think the atmosphere in the building played a role in tonight's result?"
Answer:
"It was pretty much the same as in Washington."
- Via TVA Sports journalist Anthony Martineau
Ovechkin's tone while answering this question spoke volumes.
He didn't seem particularly impressed, at least not overly, by the atmosphere inside the Bell Centre on Friday night.
It's a strange comment coming from a legend and a veteran because it will only add more fuel to the crowd and even more energy to the fans who will be in the Bell Centre tonight.
A fired-up Bell Centre to respond to Alex Ovechkin tonight?
I don't see how the atmosphere could be even more electric than it was on Friday, but after Ovechkin's comment, there's definitely a little extra motivation.
I don't see how Ovechkin can claim the atmosphere was the same in Washington.
It wasn't even close to being comparable!
Let's remember that Game 4 of this best-of-seven series will take place tonight at 6:30 PM, live from a Bell Centre that is once again expected to be far more electric than Washington's Capital One Arena.
