Methot Trashes The Matthews extension and Reveals why the Leafs will never win
A former NHLer has taken to social media to discuss the Maple Leafs' extension of Auston Matthews.
Methot's Career
Marc Methot had a solid tenure in the NHL. He was known for being sturdy on the blue line and being able to help his offensively-minded defensive partners do whatever they pleased.
Methot played in 13 NHL seasons amassing 624 games played and 123 total points as well. He played for Columbus, Ottawa, and Dallas. He retired from NHL hockey back in 2018.
Methot Trashes Toronto
Following Auston Matthews' record-breaking extension, Methot took to social media to trash the Leafs for this move.
"Tough situation for the Leafs. 13.2 for one player, followed by potentially 14+ for his sidekick, never mind Nylander being up as well. I don't see this team winning anything in the near future."
His sidekick is referring to Mitch Marner when his contract eventually runs out.
Methot does not believe that the Leafs have what it takes to win it all after their players have proven time and time again that they will not extend for the max term and will not take a pay cut to stay in Toronto.
