To everyone's surprise, just before the opening of the free agency market, Kent Hughes traded Logan Mailloux to the St. Louis Blues in return for Zachary Bolduc.
It must be said that with the recent arrival of Noah Dobson on the Canadiens' defense, the right side was starting to get quite crowded.
Indeed, this addition, combined with Jayden Struble and Alexandre Carrier, doesn't leave much room for young right-handed prospects.
Especially since David Reinbacher will also be trying his luck in the team's main lineup.
So, it was necessary to part with a prospect, and Mailloux was the one chosen for the task.
Regarding this trade, several Blues fans felt cheated by their GM. They didn't hesitate to share their thoughts under the X post announcing the trade.

The disappointment of seeing a prospect who scored 19 goals last season in 72 games traded for a defenseman with only 8 games in the show was certainly real.
But Blues head coach Jim Montgomery wasted no time setting the record straight.
In a recent interview, the Montreal-born coach claimed that Mailloux is nothing less than a top-10 pick!

Montgomery already seems to like his new defenseman and isn't afraid to defend him publicly.
