Following the Montreal Canadiens' elimination at the hands of the Washington Capitals, TVA Sports journalist Renaud Lavoie provided clarification regarding Ivan Demidov.
Many people have called for him to be assigned to the Laval Rocket immediately to help the Canadiens' farm team and give him valuable experience, but that's simply not possible.
Contrary to what was stated yesterday by an expert we won't name, Demidov cannot join the Rocket.
It's not that he doesn't want to, he simply isn't allowed to.
Renaud Lavoie Provides Clarification Regarding Ivan Demidov
At first, it was believed to be a real possibility and that things would head in that direction to close out the season, but the shocking turn of events we were informed of has ruled out that option.
"By signing his contract late in the season, Ivan Demidov has obviously burned a year of his deal and will not be able to join the Laval Rocket for the AHL playoffs, as was the case for
Lane Hutson a year ago."
- Renaud Lavoie
It's the same situation that occurred with Lane Hutson a year ago.
Ivan Demidov, 19 years old, wraps up his 2024-2025 season with 49 points in 65 KHL games (19 goals) and 2 points in 2 NHL games with the Montreal Canadiens.
In the playoffs, he recorded 5 points in 6 KHL games and 2 points in 5 games with the Canadiens.
It's an extremely encouraging season for the young Ivan Demidov, following his selection as the fifth overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft by the Canadiens.
Things look promising for next season, especially if young players like
David Reinbacher and
Logan Mailloux crack the lineup and can make a positive impact.
