Top Canadiens Prospect Causes Surprise and Signs New Contract in Europe
We have a fairly significant update to share today involving young defenseman Bogdan Konyushkov, who was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens.
He just signed a new contract in the KHL, which will delay his arrival in North America.
It's a bit surprising, especially considering he had just participated in the Montreal Canadiens' development camp-but it looks like we'll have to wait a while longer in this case.
Signing Alert: Defenseman Bogdan Konyushkov Signs in KHL
This virtually eliminates any chance of him coming to North America in the short term.
"KHL confirms that Habs prospect Bogdan Konyushkov, who just attended Canadiens Dev Camp, extended his contract by one more season.
Would be eligible to make the jump to the NHL as of June 1, 2027."
- Marco D'Amico
So Konyushkov, who was in Montreal for the camp, ultimately didn't stay in town very long.
Bogdan Konyushkov, 22 years old, is a 6-foot, 171-pound right-shot defenseman who was selected in the fourth round by the Montreal Canadiens in 2023 (110th overall). He recorded 17 points in 67 games last season in the KHL.
In 2023-24, he tallied 28 points in 65 games.
He's definitely an intriguing prospect-especially considering he's the most utilized player on his team despite his young age, that he already played in the KHL All-Star Game, and that his production is impressive for someone his age-but still, we'll have to wait a bit longer.
I would've really liked to see him with the Laval Rocket, especially following the departure of
Logan Mailloux.
