It comes from «the snake,» Simon Boisvert.
According to him, the towel has indeed been thrown in on Alex Newhook, and he believes Newhook will never be a bonafide second-line player in the NHL.
He's seen enough.
Also according to the analyst, Newhook will be replaced on the Canadiens' second line, and a better player will eventually take his place.
With talents like Ivan Demidov, Patrik Laine, and even Michael Hage expected to join Martin St-Louis' lineup eventually, it's not hard to believe.
Given that Kent Hughes traded three assets to acquire Newhook, including a first-round and a second-round pick, it's truly disappointing.
Furthermore, Simon Boisvert mentions that Newhook is, at best, a third-line forward, but the big issue is that he doesn't bring what a good third-line NHL forward should (a complete game, toughness, intense and irritating forechecking for the opponent, grit).
Check out the clip in question:
I hadn't realized Newhook was struggling this much this season
He's only scored two points in 13 games (2 goals, 0 assists), despite playing in the Canadiens' top-6 since the very start of the season.
He's had plenty of power-play opportunities and time.
Newhook, 23, earns an annual salary of $2.9 million until 2027.
Let's hope he can turn things around and prove Simon Boisvert wrong, but it's true that things don't look promising at the moment. What would you do with Alex Newhook if it were your decision?
