Last night at the Bell Centre, during the clash between the Canadiens and the Panthers, we witnessed a ridiculous scene, but there's an update.
Martin St-Louis reacted to the decision (or decisions?) of the NHL on Brendan Gallagher's disallowed goal
I can't recall ever seeing this in an NHL game before.
As Brendan Gallagher seemed to score a goal and appeared to outplay goalie
Anthony Stolarz, the referees went to video review.
They then announced to the Bell Centre crowd that the goal was good!
However, they returned to the microphone, seconds later, and changed their minds again, ultimately disallowing the goal.
A change of mind that caused a buzz yesterday.
Players and coaches on both teams' benches struggled not to laugh. The NHL thus made a new announcement, seconds after telling Brendan Gallagher his goal was good.
What confusion and what a ridiculous scene...
Following the game, the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, Martin St-Louis, reacted to this ludicrous situation.
"Martin St. Louis said with all the noise in the building the official misheard what the war room was telling him, hence the wrong announcement on the Gallagher non-goal." - Via Arpon Basu
Kudos to Martin, who was truly understanding and a good sport.
