We have an update for the Montreal Canadiens in the race for the NHL playoffs.
We knew the Habs were entering the game against the Colorado Avalanche with a lot on the line, especially since the New York Rangers won their afternoon game against the Vancouver Canucks (despite only 12 shots on goal), so the evening games were going to be extremely important.
And so, as you know, Martin St-Louis's squad pulled off an absolutely incredible comeback to earn a huge point against Colorado.
How important was that point?
So important that it cancels out the New York Islanders' game last night.
Patrick Roy's Islanders also picked up just one point against the Calgary Flames
The Long Island team indeed fell 4-3 in overtime against the Calgary Flames.
The big good news of the day is this: despite the loss last night and thanks to the point earned, the Montreal Canadiens are still in a playoff spot this morning!
What great news, and what a missed opportunity by Patrick Roy's team.
The Islanders are probably the biggest threat to the Habs right now, so their loss is huge for Montreal.
Here's where things currently stand in the standings, along with some very relevant explanations:
Which of these two teams do you think has the better chance of making the playoffs Patrick Roy's squad or Martin St-Louis's?
This will definitely be something to watch closely in the coming days!
The Islanders, by the way, play tomorrow night against the Columbus Blue Jackets, in what will be an extremely important game for the Montreal Canadiens and the standings in the East.
