TVA Sports journalist, Renaud Lavoie, was back on BPM Sports radio this morning and spoke about the Trevor Zegras situation.
We learned, among other things, that Patrik Laine refused a specific trade before his transaction to the Montreal Canadiens, according to Renaud Lavoie , but that's not all.
Renaud Lavoie had several pieces of information to share this morning, and we highly recommend listening to his full segment.
That said, here's an interesting excerpt where he explains that Patrik Laine wasn't necessarily on Kent Hughes' and the Montreal Canadiens' radar a few months ago.
Names like Trevor Zegras and Martin Necas were much more prominent, but the asking price was obviously much higher.
«Who were we talking about? We talked a lot about Trevor Zegras and Martin Necas. It's funny that today, both are still with their respective teams and haven't been traded to the Montreal Canadiens or elsewhere.»
«It's not because attempts weren't made either, whether by the Canadiens or other teams [to acquire these players].»

He then clearly confirms that there were discussions with the Montreal Canadiens about trades involving the aforementioned players, including Cole Caufield's best friend, Trevor Zegras.
We love it. The Canadiens are active and clearly on the lookout for opportunities.
Kent Hughes truly tried to acquire Trevor Zegras and Martin Necas, but evidently, the price was too high for his liking, and he was right not to force things.
In the end, acquiring Patrik Laine was the right move for the Habs!
